Health Screening

Is it time you treated yourself or your employees to a medical MOT?

It is said that prevention is better than a cure and in terms of our good health this is often true. In most cases the early diagnosis of an illness leads to increased success of management or treatment of the problem. A thorough health assessment with an experienced screening physician is designed to review an individual’s overall health and well being and detect any potential problems at an early stage. Dependent on the findings of your assessment, your doctor can suggest certain lifestyle changes that may make a positive impact on your future health and reduce the risk of serious illness.

Health assessments for individuals

Many individuals are now deciding to have a full health assessment. For many it is an opportunity to discuss any minor concerns that have been at the back of their mind for some time, for others it is an opportunity to seek peace of mind and advice on preventative measures and for some it may provide the opportunity for a second opinion on their general state of health.

You can have a health assessment at any stage in your life. You may want to be checked over before you retire, whilst you are going through the menopause or before you change jobs. You may require a health assessment for a specific purpose, such as when applying for life assurance.

Whatever your specific needs are our health assessment programme can be adapted to suit you.

Health assessments for corporate clients

More and more companies are recognising the benefits of pre-employment medicals and regular health checks for their employees. Monitoring the health of your staff on an ongoing basis illustrates commitment to their general well being and is an increasingly attractive benefit to both employers and employees.

Millions of working days are lost each year through illness and staff sickness can have a dramatic effect on productivity. Health screening can have a positive impact on your business in a variety of ways including:

  • Prevention and early diagnosis of illness resulting in fewer days of absence.
  • A higher level of employee fitness through a programme of ongoing assessment.
  • Pre employment medicals ensure that your chosen candidate is medically capable of undertaking all aspects of the vacant position.
  • Many employees now look for screening programmes within the benefit package being offered to them.
  • Illustrates a company’s commitment and dedication to their employees, recognising the importance of their staff in their success.

For your staff benefits of the screening programme include:

  • Time dedicated to reflection about their general health and well being, something they may usually be too busy to spend any time on.
  • A confidential opportunity to spend time with a screening physician discussing any aspects of their health that may have not wanted to trouble their own GP with.
  • A feeling of worth, that their company values their health and is willing to invest in them.

Whilst our health assessment programme is recognised as a comprehensive screen, companies may have specific requirements and specifically designed programmes can be devised for these purposes.

At the health assessment

Prior to your appointment you will be asked to complete a comprehensive health questionnaire. This will help focus your attention on any aspects of your health that you would like to discuss with your screening physician and also provides them with a thorough picture of both your current health and your previous medical history.

On arrival you will be greeted by the clinic receptionist who will check all of your personal details and show you to a comfortable waiting area. Your designated nurse will collect you from there and will undertake a number of preliminary tests prior to your consultation with the doctor. This will take approximately one hour. Once the nurse has completed all of her tests she will show you back to the waiting area, where you will be offered refreshments. Once you have had something to eat and drink you will be shown through to meet your screening physician.

You will spend approximately one hour with your doctor, who will go through your comprehensive health questionnaire with you, discussing any areas of particular concern. Your doctor will review the findings of the tests carried out by the nurse and will also undertake a thorough examination. Following examination and dependent on clinical need your doctor may then organise further tests for you, such as a mammogram or a chest x-ray, and these will be carried out for you once your consultation is complete.

Following your appointment your screening physician will review all of your test results and complete your personalised report. This will include details of all of their findings and their suggestions of how you may improve your general health. Your report will usually be sent to you within two weeks of your attendance. Should there be any particular areas of concern your screening physician will telephone you to discuss these and suggest appropriate action, such as onward referral to a specialist consultant. A copy of your report will also be sent to your own GP.
